Both are leaders in online cloud-based software, where 'the cloud' refers to the storage of information over the internet rather than locally in a computer's hard drive. Buyer name and mailing address, email address, and items purchased are maintained in the cloud and will remain there for the duration of use of these accounting services. Credit card information is not shared by the payment gateways (PayPal checkout or Square Up for credit cards) and is not received by the accounting software.
